Wapda chairman reviews progress on Tarbela Fifth Extension Project

Water and Power Development Authority Chairman Muhammad Saeed, along with Indus River System Authority Chairman Amjad Saeed, visited Tarbela Dam on Monday to assess work on the Tarbela Fifth Extension Hydropower Project.

During the visit, project officials informed the delegation that construction activities were progressing steadily and that efforts were being coordinated to complete the project within the planned timeframe. The hydropower scheme is expected to contribute an additional 1,530 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.

Officials further stated that the project is being financed with assistance from the World Bank and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank.

The Wapda chairman instructed authorities to accelerate work and avoid unnecessary delays to help address the country’s increasing energy demands.

Muhammad Saeed also inspected the Tarbela Fourth Extension Hydropower Project, where he observed the test commissioning of the low-level outlet.

According to officials, the outlet plays an important role in ensuring water supply to provinces during the Kharif season in accordance with IRSA requirements. They added that electricity generation from the Tarbela Fourth Extension Project began in March 2018.
