PESHAWAR – Shafi Jan on Saturday rejected allegations levelled by Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari against the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, describing them as an attempt to divert attention from alleged corruption scandals in Punjab.
In a statement, the provincial information minister accused the Punjab government of failing to address allegations of corruption, nepotism and misuse of public resources.
He questioned the Punjab government’s silence over what he described as a reported corruption scandal linked to Faisalabad’s “Saaf Suthra Programme”.
Shafi Jan claimed that investigations into only one district had so far revealed alleged irregularities and maintained that broader accountability could expose further corruption across Punjab.
The minister also said the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had failed to accept the electoral support received by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He alleged that the Punjab government was relying on political propaganda instead of addressing public issues and criticised what he termed excessive publicity campaigns centred on Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.
Shafi Jan further accused the federal and Punjab governments of pursuing politically motivated cases against PTI founder Imran Khan, his wife Bushra Bibi and other party leaders and workers.
