Pakistani officials on Sunday dismissed suggestions linking Pakistan to any potential normalization arrangement with Israel under the framework of the Abraham Accords, saying the country’s position on the Palestinian issue remains “clear and unchanged” and accusing certain voices in Washington of attempting to create confusion around Islamabad’s policy.
The reaction came after US Senator Lindsey Graham suggested that Pakistan, alongside Saudi Arabia and Qatar, could potentially join the Abraham Accords as part of broader regional developments tied to negotiations surrounding Iran.
“If, in fact, as a result of these negotiations to end the Iranian conflict, our Arab and Muslim allies in the region agreed to join the Abraham Accords, it would make this agreement one of the most consequential in the history of the Middle East,” Graham said in a social media post, adding that Pakistan joining such an arrangement would be “beyond transformative for the region and world.”
Responding to the remarks, Pakistani officials asserted that US President Donald Trump had made no reference to Pakistan.
“President Trump never mentioned Pakistan. However, Lindsey Graham appears to be itching for it. Why? Because he represents the top cadre of detractors of peace who want, in any way possible, to create malice, confusion and discord,” a Pakistani official said.
Officials described Graham’s remarks as based on an “old narrative” and reiterated that Islamabad’s policy toward Israel and Palestine had remained consistent for decades.
“Pakistan’s position on Israel is crystal clear, as enunciated by our founder Quaid-e-Azam. Our position on Palestine is also crystal clear, and that is a separate self-governing state,” the official said.
Pakistan does not maintain diplomatic relations with Israel and has historically linked any change in policy to a just resolution of the Palestinian issue. Islamabad has consistently supported the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on internationally recognized parameters.
The latest remarks come amid wider diplomatic discussions surrounding Iran and regional security dynamics, with speculation continuing over possible shifts in alliances and normalization efforts across the Middle East. Pakistani officials, however, stressed that there had been no change in Islamabad’s established position.
