
UK High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott has said that Pakistan is expanding its diplomatic, economic, and strategic partnerships globally, while bilateral trade between Pakistan and the United Kingdom has reached an all-time high.
Marriott stated that relations between the two countries have entered a new phase marked by greater stability, economic collaboration, and strategic engagement.
She referred to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s recent meeting with UK National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, where both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors.
According to the British envoy, Pakistan and the UK agreed to enhance collaboration in areas including security, trade, investment, and development, while Britain also expressed support for Pakistan’s ongoing reform agenda.
Marriott noted that the United Kingdom remains Pakistan’s largest economic partner in Europe, with more than 200 British companies currently operating in the country and British investment exceeding Rs910 billion.
She added that the UK is Pakistan’s third-largest export destination and said the continued presence of British firms demonstrates confidence in Pakistan’s economic potential.
The high commissioner further revealed that bilateral trade between the two countries has crossed the $6 billion mark, reaching the highest level recorded so far.
She said British companies operating in Pakistan are contributing significantly to job creation, technology transfer, tax collection and export growth, adding that the partnership between the two countries is supporting sustainable economic development and long-term stability.
