Tribute paid to legendary ‘Rangeela’



ISLAMABAD  –  Legendary singer, actor, comedian Rangeela was remembered on his 21st death anniversary on Sunday as fans and media across the world paid tribute to his lasting legacy in entertainment. Muhammad Saeed Khan, popularly known as Rangeela, was born in 1937 in Parachinar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In his early years, his family also lived in Peshawar, where he spent much of his childhood before eventually moving to Lahore during the golden era of Lollywood in search of better opportunities in the film industry, according to media reports said. He began his career in showbiz in a modest way, initially working as a billboard painter for films. However, his natural talent for performance soon brought him in front of the camera, where a small comedy role completely changed the course of his life.  With his unmatched expressions, timing and unique style of humour, he quickly rose to fame, turning every appearance into a memorable performance and establishing himself as a beloved entertainer.  Rangeela made his film debut with the Punjabi movie “Jatti” in 1957, which marked the beginning of a long and successful cinematic journey. After this breakthrough, he devoted himself largely to comedy roles and became one of the most recognizable faces of Pakistani cinema. Over time, he earned the title of the “king of comedy” in Pakistan, with popularity that extended across Asia. Throughout his career, Rangeela acted in more than 300 films and received numerous honours, including eleven Nigar Awards and the prestigious Pride of Performance for his outstanding services to cinema. He remained active in the film industry for nearly four decades, earning admiration from audiences, filmmakers, and fellow artists alike for his remarkable contribution to Lollywood. Rangeela passed away on May 24, 2005, at the age of 68, leaving behind a rich legacy in Pakistani cinema. He was married three times and is survived by 14 children.  Even today, he is remembered as a true icon of laughter whose work continues to entertain generations, proving that his legacy remains timeless in the history of film.
