Google maps introduces new gradient icon in latest update

Google has quietly rolled out a redesigned icon for its navigation service Google Maps, introducing subtle visual changes that many users may not have noticed yet.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the updated icon featuring a gradient-style design has started appearing on Android devices and is expected to be released for iOS users in the near future.

While the familiar map pin shape remains unchanged, the design includes several refinements. The upper coloured portion of the pin has been made slightly thinner, and the white circle within the icon has been enlarged compared to the previous version.

The report also noted that the colour palette has been refreshed with gradient tones inspired by Gemini and broader artificial intelligence themes.

Technology analysts say the icon will still be easily recognisable for users despite the updated appearance.

The new design is being gradually introduced to Android users, with a rollout for iOS devices expected soon.

In recent months, Google has been adding several AI-driven features to Google Maps, including navigation tools that allow users to interact directly with Gemini. The company is also working to further integrate Gemini capabilities into the Maps platform.
