PM announces zero tolerance for corruption within law enforcement agencies



ISLAMABAD  –  Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday emphasised the need to utilise all resources for capacity building of the law enforcement agencies to ensure protection of people’s lives and property.

He was chairing a meeting on law and order situation in the country and matters pertaining to the Ministry of Interior in Islamabad today.

The prime minister also directed to adopt strict implementation of a zero-tolerance policy against corruption within the law enforcement agencies.

He ordered authorities concerned to ensure all recruitments under the Ministry of Interior, including the Federal Investigation Agency, are made on merit. Shehbaz Sharif said personnel of the law enforcement agencies should be equipped with modern training and expertise to face contemporary security challenges. He further instructed to provide the state-of-the-art equipment, modern technology, and professional resources.

The meeting was informed that under-construction prison in Islamabad will become functional in September this year. It was also briefed on the performance of FIA, Islamabad Police, National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency, Federal Constabulary, Capital Development Authority, and other agencies under the Interior Ministry. The meeting was also updated on the future development projects.

Also, PM Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed the authorities to ensure timely provision of fertilizer to farmers at all costs and ordered continuous monitoring of fertilizer supplies to safeguard the country’s food security.

The prime minister chaired an important meeting on food security and fertilizer reserves here, a Prime Minister’s Office news release said. The prime minister said meeting the agricultural sector’s requirements was the government’s top priority to ensure food security in the country.

He directed the relevant ministries and institutions to formulate plans for alternative fertilizer supplies from Central Asian states in view of possible disruptions in supply chains from Gulf countries.

The prime minister also instructed the authorities to ensure sufficient fertilizer stocks for both Kharif and Rabi crop seasons and emphasized accelerating work on projects aimed at increasing local fertilizer production through installation of new plants.

During the meeting, he directed to take strict action against artificial shortages and hoarding of fertilizer to protect farmers from exploitation and maintain stable supplies in the market.

Waste management system

PM Shehbaz Sharif also directed authorities concerned to introduce the latest and sustainable solid waste management system in collaboration with provincial governments across the country, including Islamabad. He was presiding over a meeting regarding solid waste management in Tuesday.

The Prime Minister said using environmental-friendly and renewable sources of energy for sustainable development is among the government’s priorities. He instructed the formation of a task force to propose a comprehensive plan for producing energy from solid waste and it was also decided to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for generating electricity from solid waste.

Shehbaz Sharif said the task force will prepare recommendations in light of modern technology and international experiences.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that the development, prosperity and welfare of the people of Balochistan remained the federal government’s top priority.

The prime minister expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of senior politicians and members of the Senate from Balochistan at the Prime Minister’s Office, a news release said.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that Balochistan was rich in natural resources and emphasized that the government was making every possible effort to ensure that the people of the province fully benefited from those resources.
